Robert Geller Fall 2009.

Robert Geller’s Collection for Fall 2009 was the designer’s attempt to bring the panache of the European Runways to New York Fashion Week. According to Geller it’s about time menswear began to push boundaries, to explore, to show what is next- and who could disagree? The collection was a nod to 20th Century Vienna, Menswear’s finest hour according to the designer. This was Geller’s strongest collection yet, in terms of statement. How ironic that the winner of GQ’s Best New American Designer Title presented such a “European” Collection. It’s time menswear evolved from the suit and tie ( not to say that there aren’t any designers who have already taken upon the task). But with a collection so full of suggestion and intricate styling Geller brought much needed verve to the somber mood that the recession has cast over many. Men need inspiration and influence, now more than ever.
